AFTER AN EXTENDED BREAK THANKS TO THE CAPE WEATHER, WPMC KARTING READY TO DO BATTLE AT HOTLY ANTICIPATED ROUND 5

It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly two months since the last WP karting Regional. The Cape of Storms has certainly lived up to its name. The good news is that the weather looks to be clearing—though just barely. There’s a whisper of rain in the forecast for this weekend’s eagerly awaited Round 5 of the Western Province Regional and Club Kart Championships. After a short break, where drivers have had plenty of opportunities to sharpen their wet-weather skills, those abilities might just be put to the test this weekend. But more importantly, we’re diving into the second half of what has been an electrifying season so far. Let’s take a look at the provisional entries ready to line up this weekend.

BAMBINO

Championship contenders Caleb Lingeveldt and Radhi Harris are set to reignite their Bambino title fight this weekend. Lingeveldt holds a narrow 3-point lead over Harris, and Saturday promises to be a tightly fought-showdown between these two. Meanwhile, Aleena Doutie and Ashlyn Beaumont are locked in a fierce battle for third in the standings but don’t count out Divaaj Govender, who’s riding high after a strong run of podiums last time out. Lehan Fourie and Emelee Adriaans, eager to get back into the action after the nearly two-month break, will line up for their second races of the season. The Bambino class always delivers close racing as these young stars—future champions of South African motorsport—go wheel-to-wheel. It’s a spectacle you don’t want to miss!

MICRO MAX

The Rotax Micro Max standings remain incredibly tight as we head into Round 5. Liam Wharton carries a narrow lead over rival Michael O’Mahoney, but in a class as competitive as this, no one can afford to rest easy. Jayden van der Merwe and Ruhan Victor have been gaining momentum as the season progresses, while Yaqeen Gamieldien is always in the mix. Expect a fierce battle for the win this weekend. Jake Steyn and Slater Smith are also eager to make their mark, while Mia Hermanus and Qaanit Doutie round off a thrilling lineup of drivers. Don’t blink—you might miss something!

MINI ROK

Mini Rok Championship leader Logan Roehrig will be looking to extend his advantage, but he won’t have it easy with Jose Slamet hot on his heels in the title chase. Aadiv Singh and Zeph Hair are hungry for a comeback after a few challenging rounds, but they’ll have to fend off rising stars Radhi Harris and Ebrahim Khalpey. And in a twist that could shake things up, Mini Max frontrunner Michael Danks is making his first appearance in the ROK class this season—expect him to stir the pot and keep everyone on their toes.

MINI MAX

A talent-packed Mini Max grid is ready to hit the track this weekend, with championship leader Max Boshoff eager to keep his winning streak alive after his dominant performance at Round 4. Boshoff enjoys a solid lead at the halfway point of the season, but he can’t afford to let his guard down. Michael Danks, Ruan Lewis, and Zac Hindley have all tasted victory this year and are hungry for more. Don’t overlook the determination of Zac Boshoff, who’s ready to defend his position against fierce challenges from Zach McAuley, Andrew Retter, Zion Hair, and Hugo Aggett. These rising stars are making significant strides in their relatively short racing careers, and they’re all fired up to score big points this weekend.

OKJ

The OKJ field is primed for an all-out battle as Manelisi Nkomo aims to take the lead in the standings this Saturday. But he’ll need to keep a close eye on Onwabile Mcinga, who’s poised to challenge for the win. Tristan Botha and Raffaele Musso are eager to make their mark, while Rayan Karriem steps up from Mini Rok, ready to shake things up in the OKJ class.

JUNIOR MAX

The Junior Max showdown this weekend promises to be another nail-biter as championship leader Keagan Beaumont clings to a slim lead heading into Saturday’s races, with last round’s victor Jordan Wadeley hot on his heels. Sebastiano Human, Nicholas Lennox, and Anwill April have consistently demonstrated blistering pace, so expect them to be right in the thick of it. Aiden Beaumont and the lightning-fast William Marshall, who snatched a win at Round 4, will be eager to mix it up at the front. With Matthew Carter making his season debut in Junior Max, he’ll need to get up to speed quickly. This one’s shaping up to be a super tight battle when the lights go out on Saturday!

SENIOR MAX

The Rotax Senior Max class is a battlefield of top-tier talent in the Cape for 2024, and this weekend promises another chapter of intense competition. Championship leader Charl Visser has been the man to beat, but he’ll have to keep a close eye on Luca Wehrli, fresh off a victory last time out. Cole Hewetson, Jude Stuart, and Ethan Deacon are all hungry for their first win of the season and have the pace to make it happen. F1600 ace Storm Lanfear is looking to mix it up at the front, but he’ll need to fend off Gabriele Gazzilli and the ever-quick Joshua Smit. Meanwhile, Mikaeel Moola and Julius Schwager are set to make their season debuts, adding even more firepower to the Senior Max lion’s den. This one is going to be electric!

DD2 & DD2 MASTERS

Get ready for a showdown in the DD2 class this weekend as Joseph Oelz brings a razor-thin lead into the premier gearbox category, squaring off against multiple SA Champion Sebastian Boyd. These two titans of the sport have been neck and neck all season, and you can bet the sparks will fly again on Saturday. But don’t sleep on Matthew Wadeley, who’s been knocking on the door of his first premier class victory—he’s getting stronger with each race. Ethan Stier will be right there in the mix too, pushing hard to stay in the hunt. Meanwhile, Rafe Taylor is back on track for the first time this season, and he’ll need to find his pace quickly to keep up with the top guns.

In DD2 Masters, the battle resumes between Jared Jordan and Conor Hughes, who’ve been trading blows all year for the overall Masters crown. Hughes has a slim 3-point lead, but Jordan is on a mission to turn the tables this weekend. And let’s not forget the fierce competitors hot on their heels—Neville Chapman, Niel Lambrechts, Johan Hamman, and Andrew Thomas are all primed to shake things up. Buckle up, it’s going to be a thriller!
